My work is based around the theme of The Sublime in the Mundane. Inspiration is taken from the core philosophies of the Slow Movement, highlighting the importance of the maker's hand and their engagement with craft. Through an artisan's sensitivity and a subtle colour palette, appreciation is given to the minutiae in the everyday, such as, the understated warp and weft of a fabric and the industry of a modest needle.
Conversations develop between photography and textiles; continued referencing between the two results in embroidery as both the subject matter of photographic imagery and as a tangible continuation of it. It is a story of contradictions; sequence and permutation, concealment and revelation, dissection and interconnectivity, illustrating the value of both the ordinary and the extraordinary.
